The band trips to Niagrara Falls, NY and to Winchester, Va. Always a big event for the band and many adventures. I remember the band going through customs at Niagara Falls and everyone holding their breath because we had bought fireworks and stashed them in our instrument cases. (We were supposed to have gotten rid of everything the night before). The inspectors came on board the bus, took one look and left. Whew! We made it!

All 4 Band trips (Winchester, Niagara Falls, Norfolk and Washington D.C.) In D.C. we were given a free hour due to rain which washed out the Lincoln Memorial steps concert. A number of friends and I sought out the Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian. The hour went too fast. All 4 years were a lot of work and a lot of fun. Had a blast with the Alumni Band in September 2009!! Thanks to all involved in making it happen!!!!

My sister in Naperville IL talks about how hard her kids' marching band works each season, but they do only 1 show a season. We did six shows a season AND won championships!

Spring Band Trip 1985 to Nashville. Mr. Buetzow came down to the pool area and sat down. The sophmore class (Class of 87), Joe Pudlack, Lloyd Kapple and some others picked up the chair Mr. B was sitting on and threw him in the pool. I don't think he ever went around a pool again untill after we were gone.

Two greatest memories were: the trip to San Antonio for the Fiesta Flambeau which included two parades (one at night) and a Field Drill Exhibition for which we were one of six bands chosen to participate and during which we drew the most applause (according to the next days local newspaper). 2. The trip to Toronto Canada for the International Music Festival from which we returned with 7 First Place Trophies. What a Senior Trip!

Being shuffled around from one practice field to the next due to renovation of the highschool and then construction of the ice rink. As a quatermater and then head quarter master we got to paint dots on everything from the baseball fields in front of the school, the softball fields at IMS and finally the new parking lot to the rink. How I miss those days!

There are so many to choose from...Hoagies...When ever I see a Hoagie I think of Band. Those long August days of band camp and spinning holes in my shoes on the black top from practiving in the parking lot because the directors wanted everything just so...that drive for perfection that haunts me to this day. Those cold fall nights, the march through South Hills Village Mall to escort Santa, The 20+ Hour bus trips to Florida and Tennesee, then seeing Cats and going to Washington DC for competition my Senior year. My Bell falling off at the start of our competition show in Tennesee, and not missing a beat as I scooped it up and continued marching and playing...can even see it on the tape. My parents, especially my Dad being at every game, my dad filmed the half time and pre-game shows 2 years and the competitions, for review. Working on the Senior Show with the other Seniors. I can go on. Many, Many happy memories. Congratulations Black Hawks on the WIPIAL AAAA Championship!

I was only a Bethette for 1 year 74-75. I made the squad after my junior year. My sister Sue was in the band 4 years 1971-1974. I always loved marching down and then back up the hill into the stadium. I loved the feeling of a huge group marching and playing in unison. I also loved coming back to the band room and each squad doing a little solo while percussion stood to the side and played. Good Stuff! Great Memories! Oh, yes, our band trip to San Antonio, Texas. Go Blackhawks!

Senior year the running joke was where is Mr. Buetzow's desk. It showed up everywhere including the band trip to Florida. And remembering the Steeler game my sophmore year when they went a few weeks without scoring a touchdown and they scored the first one when we were there.

As Student Director in 2003-2004, I worked with many great people. One memory came when Baldwin's Drum Major (my friend) and I worked together. We directed the bands to combine and play "Rocky" together before one of our home games. That was a very special moment for me. The big sound in front of the combined bands propelled me into the Penn State Marching Blue Band.
